Functions of Gram Panchayat:
I. Essential functions:
1. Construction, Repair and Maintenance of Roads and other Public places.
2. Construction, Repair and Maintenance of Drainage Canals.
3. Construction and Maintenance of Burial grounds.
4. Erection and maintenance of Electric polls.
5. Maintenance of Birth and death registers.
6. Conducting vaccinations for Controlling Rabbis and other contagious diseases.
7. Provision of Drinking water facilities.
8. Manufacture and sale of manures.
9. Maintenance of Cattle farms and soon.
10. Construction, Repair and Maintenance of Footpaths, Culverts, Public Parks and Play grounds.
II. Discretionary functions:
1. Construction and maintenance of Rest houses.
2. Construction and maintenance of Primary schools, Dispensaries, Libraries, Reading rooms and Market places etc.
3. Establishment and maintenance of Maternal and Child welfare centres.
4. Publicizing the Modern methods of Cultivation.
5. Implementation of Land reforms and soon.
Every Panchayat shall have a full time Secretary who is an officer of the Government. He shall draw his Salary and Allowances from the Panchayat Fund as per Government rules. He will be In Charge of the office of the Panchayat. He will work under the direct supervision of the Pachayat Sarpanch.
